STEPHEN COIT
Stephen Coit has been a full time professional portrait artist for over twenty years. His portfolio includes university presidents, government officials, scientists, and Nobel Prize winners among others.
Coit’s distinctive style creates a faithful reproduction of his subject that offers a true sense of presence to viewers — bridging the age old tradition with the modern day to create appealing, timeless portraits.
Practiced in the style of classical portraiture, and largely self taught, his best instructors have been the likes of Piero Della Francesca, Velasquez, Hals, Raeburn and Sargent.
"The influence of Rossetti and Burne-Jones is unmistakable, and in the tradition of the Pre-Raphaelites Yuqi manages to create work which is as sensitive as it is powerful."
When not working on commissions he often speaks and teaches.
Stephen Coit graduated from Harvard in 1971 in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science and earned an M.B.A. in 1977 from Harvard Business School 1977 graduating with High Distinction. He spent his early career in high technology as a software developer, marketing executive, and entrepreneur, and finally as a venture capitalist for many years.
